A CARE home resident celebrated her 100th birthday this week.
Constance Mary Clark née Chadwick, also known as Connie, was born August 28, 1921, and enjoyed a wonderful celebration yesterday with the staff at Arnside’s Holly Bank home.
Born in Nelson, Connie lived there during the Second World War.
She began working as a secretary during the war.
She met her husband Vic at work and they got married on April 1, 1944.
Vic was also a national champion cyclist.
Later moving to Coventry once the war was over, the couple lived there for several years before her husband retired.
They eventually moved up to Grange-over-Sands and took up fell walking and cycling in the Lake District.
Her daughter Elaine Briggs said: “My mother did a little more secretarial work during the sixties, then gave it up.
“Her life was very sheltered.
“She was a crossword fanatic and is very good with words.
“She was also a big reader of romantic fiction.
“I hope you have an incredible birthday mum; we love you so much.”
