Pubs close until indoor dining allowed as weather puts dampener on outdoor drinking

SOME pubs in East Lancashire have decided to remain closed until they can welcome customers indoors because of upcoming gloomy weather.

After a wet bank holiday Monday, pub bosses wary of the weather forecast will stay shut until May 17 when restrictions will allow them to welcome customers inside.

The New Golden Cup in Lower Darwen announced earlier this week that they will be keeping the doors closed because of the ‘unpredictability’ at the weather.

A spokesperson said: “We don’t want to be as unpredictable with our opening times as the Great British weather is, so have decided this is the best course of action.

“Thank you for all your support over the last two weeks and enduring freezing conditions to come down and support your local.”

The Thornton Arms near Worsthorne suffered more than £1,000 of damage to gazebos in recent poor weather.

A spokesperson said: “We have (all day every day) been checking the long range forecast and to be honest the weather for the next three weeks looks terrible!

“The last couple of weeks have been great but we can not expect our staff to work in conditions as they were yesterday!

“We would like to thank you all for you continued support and can’t wait to welcome everyone back indoors on the 17th!”

Elsewhere, the Wellsprings near Pendle Hill has also closed until they are able to serve customers inside.
